Discover Lund: Your Guide to Student Life

Welcome to Lund! Settling into a new city can be exciting, but also comes with new questions. This guide is designed to help you navigate student life in Lund, covering everything from finding a place to live to getting around. Let’s make your start in Lund as smooth as possible!

Accommodation

Securing accommodation in Lund can be competitive, but with the right approach, you’ll find your perfect spot. Here are the key resources and tips to help you get started:

AF Bostäder

As Lund’s largest student housing provider, AF Bostäder offers a great chance to secure accommodation.

  • Lottery System: For newly admitted students (novisches), they organise a novisch lottery at the start of each semester. You receive a random queue time, allowing you to apply for available rooms.
  • Room Types: Most units are corridor rooms with shared kitchens, and sometimes shared bathrooms.
  • Critical Deadline: Don’t miss the strict two-day sign-up window, which occurs right after Swedish students receive their admission. For Autumn 2025, this is 10–12 July.

Nations

Lund’s nations are student societies that also provide a significant amount of housing.

  • Novisch Lotteries: Some nations offer specific lotteries for newly arrived students (novisches)
  • Priority through Activity: Volunteering for a nation gives you priority in their housing queues later on.

BoPoolen

Run by the student unions, BoPoolen is a reliable resource for private housing listings.

Avoid Scams

It’s easy to get tricked especially on social media like Facebook. BoPoolen has some good tips on warning signs to look out for and how you can verify the authenticity of the landlord.

Cohabit – Cheap and sustainable furniture

Furnish your home hassle-free with Cohabit. We deliver clean, quality-checked furniture into your apartment and pickup at the end of your term. Use the code ESNLUND to get a 20% off on the first payment (including delivery charges). Choose circularity with Cohabit!

Orientation Weeks

During the Orientation Weeks you’ll get to experience many activities organised by the International Office of the university as well as many other local asociations.

Check out the page on your Canvas.

Studentlund

Studentlund is the umbrella organisation for all nations (except Småland’s), all student unions (except TLTH) and dozens of other associations (like ESN Lund!).

A Studentlund membership is essential for you to be able to enjoy Lund’s student life. As an international student you will recieve an email with a personal link to register.

At the beginning of the semester you must join one of the 12 nations for your membership to be complete. The registration period opens on 25 August 2025. You can find the opening hours on each nation’s website.

Association Fairs

Student Association Fair

The Student Association Fair (SAF) is held in English specifically for international students during orientation weeks. It’s your opportunity to meet all the nations and various student associations across many interests (Come say hi to ESN Lund!).

Date & Time: 22 August 2025, 10:30–15:30

Location: AF Borgen

Hälsningsgillet

Hälsningsgillet is the main association fair for all students. Here, you’ll find an even wider number of associations, and you’ll probably be surprised by just how many there are!

Date & Time: 5 September 2025, 12:00–16:00

Location: AF Borgen

Nations

Novisch period

Nations organise a novisch period for new students a few weeks into the semester, so it will not interfere with the orientation weeks or the introduction period (nollning) of your student union.

Make sure to be there on the first day of the nation registration period to secure your spot!

Clubs

Experience Lund’s distinct club scene, which is exclusively run by and for students through the nations (with the exception of T-Bar). Each nation club offers different music styles and atmospheres, providing a variety of experiences to explore most nights of the week. Clubs are generally open from 22:00 to 02:00.

Entry Requirements

To enter a club you must be a member of Studentlund and have a valid photo ID.

Guest Pass

If you have friends visiting who are also university students, they can purchase a guest pass for 100 kr (valid for 1 week) to gain entry to the nation clubs.

To purchase a guest pass:

  • Your friend needs to visit a nation during their office hours.
  • They must bring their student ID or other proof that they are studying and a valid photo ID (e.g., passport or national ID card) for identification.

Please remember that guest passes are exclusively for university students.

What if I’m not a student?

If you are not a student you still have the chance to party! Småland’s nation is not connected to Studentlund and don’t require a membership. T-Bar is another option if you are at least 24 years old. There are also many clubs in Malmö and Copenhagen for you to explore.

Lunch

Many nations offer cheap lunches and brunches. Make sure to check them out!

Tips

  • Get a bike! Lund is a very bike friendly city
  • You get 25% off public transport if you buy a ticket for two or more people
  • Most faculties have a concept of academic quarter which means that classes start 15 minutes after the time on the schedule. It stems from the time when students didn’t have their own watches and had to rely on the cathedral bell to know when classes started. But remeber, there’s never an academic quarter on exams!
  • Volunteer! Sweden has a strong tradition of non-profits and voluntary work. Try volunteering for a nation, your student union or another association that fits your interests (Or why not join our team). You will certainly learn a lot and make good friends.
