General questions
Is ESN only for Erasmus students?
No, we welcome all international and Swedish students!
Questions about membership
I’m a student at another university, can I join?
Yes! Provided that you are a member of Studentlund. Students from the following universities can become members of Studentlund:
Copenhagen Business School
Kristianstad University
Malmö University
Roskilde University
Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences
Technical University of Denmark
The Royal Danish Academy – Architecture
University of Copenhagen
I’m not a Studentlund member, could I still join?
If you are ineligible for Studentlund membership, you may join by obtaining special membership in the Academic Society (Akademiska föreningen).
Register and pay the membership fee. Then show the proof of payment when you come to the office. Membership in the Academic Society either through Studentlund or by special membership is necessary.
Questions about the ESNcard
When I enter my ESNcard number to get a discount the verification fails
Make sure you have created an account and registered your card on esncard.org. Having an account on Hitract is not enough. Note that it might take up to a day for the databases to sync after registering your card.
How can I benefit from the Ryanair discount?
Follow the instructions at esncard.org/ryanair.
Can I get an ESNcard online?
No, you can only get an ESNcard by visiting our office.
I have an ESNcard from another section. Can I use it here?
Yes, you can benefit from the same partner discounts. However, you must be a member of ESN Lund to get discounts on our events.
I lost my ESNcard. Can I get a new one?
You can purchase a new ESNcard in our office.
Questions about events
I can’t see any upcoming events on Hitract
We often release tickets just a few days before the event. Some events don’t require signing up, you can find them on the event calendar.
I bought a ticket but am unable to go. Can I get my money back?
No, however you are welcome to sell the ticket to another person for example in our WhatsApp group.
Can I pay for an event by cash?
If there are still tickets available, you can pay by cash in our office. This does not apply to Timetravels or Sea Battle trips as all payments are handled by them.
Questions about Hitract
How do I pass the student verification?
Using your Universityadmissions.se account: Select “Personnummer eller e-post”.
Using your Lund University account: Select “Studentportal”.
eIDAS might also work for some EU countries.
How do I register as an intern?
If you are an intern and would like to become a member of ESN Lund, you can purchase a membership through the intern registration link.
Note that you must be a either a member of Studentlund (possible if you are an intern at Lund University) or Akademiska Föreningen directly. If you are ineligible for Studentlund, you can purchase a special membership in Akademiska föreningen.
Unfortunately you will not be able to participate in events in collaboration with nations as they require Studentlund membership.
Where can I find my personal identity number?
You can find it on
Your digital Studentlund/STUK card
Your physical LU card
Universityadmissions.se
Ladok
The Swedish personal identity number (which Hitract calls “Person official ID”) is in the format YYYYMMDDXXXX; year, month, day), where XXXX is either a letter and three numbers for an interim (temporary) personal number or four numbers for a normal personal identity number.
My personal identity number won’t validate/is not in the correct format
The Swedish personal identity number can be written using two (e.g. 99) or four (e.g. 1999) digits representing the year and can optionally include a hyphen before the last four characters.
Hitract requires having 12 characters (using the long year format) and without a hyphen, like so: 19991231T123

You need to visit our office to complete your membership. See our location and hours.
Questions about the office
Do I need an appointment to come to the office?
No. Come by during any of the office hours shown in the corner of this site — that panel is the live rota, so it is right even when a shift has been cancelled.
Questions about joining the team
Do I need to speak Swedish to volunteer?
No. We work in English — most of our members are international students themselves. Practising Swedish is a bonus, not a requirement.
How much time does volunteering take?
Between 2 and 8 hours a week, depending on the position. The Activity Committee is the flexible end of that range and is a good first step if you are considering a bigger role later.
Still stuck?
Email us or come by the office — we answer both.
